Sanding the Fiberglassed Hull – Part 3

Posted by Zachary Wiest in Epoxy, Sanding, Tools

The rain finally let up today and I was able to finish sanding the hull.  I started by smoothing over the skeg fillets by hand sanding.  After a couple hours I was able to get through 120 and 220 grits using a combination of hand sanding and the random orbit sander.  It is amazing how smooth the sanded epoxy becomes!  It feels super smooth, smoother then plastic.  My bare hand just slides right over it.

As you will notice in the pictures, some of the sanding went through the thin coat of epoxy.  That is no worry as it will get sealed up in subsequent coats.
